Transforming the future of kids' health: The power of research and philanthropy

30 January 2026 | Expected time to read: 5 minutes

In the heart of New South Wales, researchers are working hard to transform the lives of children and their families across the globe

These researchers are from Kids Research, the dedicated research arm of the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network (SCHN).

With a shared mission to change the future for sick kids, Kids Research and supporters of Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation – you – are driving breakthroughs that turn discovery into life-changing care.

What is Kids Research?

Established in 2009 and operating across both The Children’s Hospital at Westmead and Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick, Kids Research is a leading hub for translational research - the process of turning new discoveries into clinical practice.

With more than 600 researchers, clinicians, and support staff, it is one of Australia’s largest and most comprehensive paediatric research hubs.

From rare genetic disorders to common childhood illnesses, Kids Research tackles a wide spectrum of health challenges.

Its work spans clinical trials, genomic medicine, neuroscience, infectious diseases, mental health and many other fields, driving innovations that change the future for sick kids.

Your role: fuelling discovery

Whilst the researchers at Kids Research are the ones in the lab coats and at the patient's bedside, it is the generosity of Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation (SCHF) donors that helps keep their work moving forward.

Your support plays a vital role in ensuring that researchers and clinicians have the resources they need to innovate, test, and implement new treatments.

When you make a donation, you help Kids Research to:

  • Launch and sustain clinical trials that deliver cutting-edge therapies to children
  • Fund early-stage research that may not yet qualify for government grants
  • Provide scholarships and mentorship for early-career researchers and students, nurturing the next generation of innovators
  • Invest in state-of-the-art facilities and technology that accelerate discovery.
Together, SCHF and Kids Research demonstrate how philanthropy and research can create life-changing outcomes for sick kids.

The role of SCHF: supporting lifesaving care

As we look to the future, the vision of Kids Research is clear: to be a global leader in translational paediatric research.

This means not only continuing to push the boundaries of research, but also ensuring that every child, regardless of their condition, has access to the best care possible – when and where they need it.

Achieving this vision will require continued investment - not just from government and industry, but from the community.

That’s where you come in.

Every donation, every fundraiser, and every act of generosity helps fuel the next breakthrough, the next clinical trial, the next life saved.

How you can help

If you’re inspired by the extraordinary work of Kids Research and the impact it is having on the future for sick kids, we invite you to make a gift today.

Whether it’s a one-time donation, or a regular monthly contribution, your support can spark the next breakthrough, bring hope to families, and ultimately, change the future for sick kids.
