Will-an-thro-py: The act of leaving a gift to a charity in your Will

20 October 2023 | Expected time to read: 3 minutes

Introducing "Willanthropy", a term that celebrates the generous acts of people who choose to leave a charitable gift in their Will.

Contrary to a common misconception that only the extremely wealthy can make a meaningful impact through legacy giving, Willanthropy showcases that generosity knows no bounds.

Willanthropy comes in all shapes and sizes - from small but no less meaningful donations to sizeable gifts, anyone can become a "Willanthropist"! At Sydney Children's Hospitals Foundation, those who become Willanthropists recognise that leaving a legacy marks a new beginning. It's the beginning of a single act of kindness making a long-lasting and positive impact on countless lives, well into the future.

Leaving a gift in Will, even as little as 1% can make a significant difference to the future of sick kids and help them live their healthiest lives.

If you're considering whether Willanthropy is for you, please don't hesitate to contact us on 1800 770 122 or plannedgiving@schf.org.au. Your gift can help transform the landscape of paediatric healthcare for generations to come.

Join us in celebrating some of the extraordinary members of our Movement of many community, and learn about their motivations for including SCHF in their wills.

"I'm a retired mum. I may not be in the position to make a significant donation today but through my Will, I can in the future." - Lyn Cecil, mum of a baby who survived thanks to the wonderful care received at Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick and SCHF Willanthropist.

"Bequest gifts are a lifeline for children and families and a wonderful legacy to leave for the next generation." - Emeritus Professor, Kim Oates AO, former Chief Exectutive, The Children's Hospital at Westmead and SCHF Willanthropist.

"What I give is so little but if it can make a difference, I'm very happy to help." - Ern Bickford, SCHF Willanthropist.
