a brand-new MR scanner after installation at The Children's Hospital at Westmead

We are thrilled to announce that, thanks to the incredible generosity of Sargents Pies Charitable Foundation, a new MRI suite at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead is officially complete and fully operational.

This cutting-edge upgrade is now making a meaningful difference for sick and injured children, delivering faster, more accurate diagnoses in a space that’s safe, welcoming, and designed specifically for young patients and their families.

For more than 15 years, the Sargents Pies Charitable Foundation has supported access to MRI technology at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, transforming the experience for thousands of kids.

Now, with the installation of a new MRI scanner which boasts a 10-year lifespan, this legacy will continue into the future.

Installing a machine of this scale is no small feat. Over four months, various phases were completed - from cabin preparation, Faraday copper shielding, painting and plastering, scaffolding, a major crane lift, and the final installation, it was a carefully coordinated effort made possible by generous philanthropic support.

The new MRI suite is more than just an equipment upgrade. It represents advanced paediatric healthcare, supporting earlier detection, quicker treatment decisions, and better long-term outcomes for children with complex medical needs.

This milestone would not have been possible without the vision and long-standing commitment of the Sargents Pies Charitable Foundation.

It’s a major step forward being able to diagnose and treat complex conditions — and a proud new chapter in our long-standing partnership with the Sargents Pies Charitable Foundation.

Thank you to the Sargents Pies Charitable Foundation for continuing to stand with us in helping all kids live their healthiest lives.

Your vision, continued commitment is helping change the future for sick and injured kids across NSW.
