Breathing in the Land

Jane Sankey

About the Artist

"When we are exposed to sunlight, trees, water … we become happier, healthier and stronger."
Julia Baird, Phosphorescence

Jane Sankey's practice gifts some of the most beautiful places she has visited to her audience spanning family road trips to bushwalks around the shores of Sydney Harbour.  Through her paintings she communicates a sense of awe, as she recalls the sounds, smells and colours of these experiences, memories and places. Captured in paint is the stoicism of the large gums, the freedom in the waves and the eternity reflected in still waters. Sankey invites her audience to breathe a little deeper, move a little slower and surrender to the healing power of nature.

Jane Sankey is an artist based in Sydney. She is drawn to the Australian landscape capturing its many forms and moods.
