Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation (SCHF) is proud to welcome The Hon. Mike Baird AO as an official ambassador — a role that reflects not just his leadership, but his deep personal commitment to families walking some of the toughest paths in life.

A respected figure in public service and business, Mike has spent decades leading with heart. From his time as Premier of New South Wales to his current role as Chair of Cricket Australia, he has consistently championed causes that matter. But it is his long-standing connection to Bear Cottage — NSW’s only children’s hospice — that truly defines his legacy of compassion.

“From the moment I walked through the doors of Bear Cottage, I knew it was a place of love, hope, and incredible strength. There is a magic there that goes beyond just the support – it’s a place where families create lasting memories, even in the most difficult of times,” Mike shared.

Mike's passion is deeply personal. As a son and grandson, he's experienced the emotional toll of entrusting a loved one to the care of others. That experience fuels his unwavering passion for ensuring every child with a life-limiting illness receives the dignity, compassion, and specialised care they deserve.

“I am so pleased to come on board as an ambassador to support the development of Western Sydney’s new palliative care centre the Mounties Care Cottage – a transformative service that will ensure access to high-quality paediatric palliative care for as many families as possible.”

Now, as an SCHF ambassador, Mike is helping lead the charge to bring a new paediatric palliative care centre to life — a place designed to bring comfort, dignity, and care closer to home for families across NSW.

“This paediatric hospice is not just a building – it’s a promise. A promise that no family will ever face this unimaginable journey alone.”

Because paediatric palliative care isn’t about giving up. It’s about showing up.

It’s about celebrating the moments that matter — the cuddles, the laughter, the stories, the quiet goodnights. It’s about giving families space to be families, surrounded by experts who understand what matters most.

Help us deliver on that promise

With your support, we can build more than bricks and mortar - we can build a legacy of compassion.

One where every child with a life-limiting illness is surrounded by care, comfort, and the people who love them most. Together, we can ensure that the most vulnerable children and their families receive the support they need when they need it most.

Donate today – Because sick kids deserve every chance at comfort, connection, and dignity.
