6.5km Walk

With life getting in the way, we have decided to do a fun 6.5km on Sunday 25th May. $10 entry, come and walk around the river with the family. 

Our CF team rely on funding from fundraisers, over the past couple of years we have lost 4 positions - 2 Dieticians, an Allied Health Assistant and a Pathologist. The next position which will be effected is Izzy's Psychologist. 

Izzy's Psychologist - Stella has been a life saver for the past few years, not just for Izzy but for our entire family. With Izzy starting to realise that no one else has to do treatments, she is at the age of asking questions "why do I have sixty five roses?". Stella has given me tools in how to answer these questions. Stella has also been a life saver with our behaviour issues with Trikafta. We worked closely with Stella to keep Izzy safe, and she continues to check in on my mental health as a parent. She knows I like to listen to audiobooks and podcasts, she has recommended books I can listen too to support our family. Stella goes above and beyond. And with Izzy getting older and wiser its only a matter of time before the questions get too hard for me and Izzy will have to see Stella on her own. If it wasn't for Stella I wouldn't have my CF Bestie Sheree.  Sheree and I were introduced in an online parenting course for "Circle of Security" where we met virtually once a week for 8 weeks when Izzy and Lucas were toddlers. 

To summarise, we need your help. We cannot loose another position in Izzy's CF Team. 

CF Clinic at Westmead Childrens Hospital

The money raised from our 65km walk will go directly back to our CF Clinic. 

The event will take place on Saturday 3rd May (CF Month) in Bathurst. 

CF

Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is the most common life limiting genetic condition. Every four days a baby is born with CF in Australia. Treatment for the condition is relentless, but essential, to slow the progression of lung damage. Specially designed physiotherapy programs to minimise the damage caused by infections and special diets to ensure the body receives the nutrients it needs.  Twenty years ago most children diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis did not live into adulthood. Now, thanks to good research and excellent clinical care most children with CF do live to be adults who can hope to have a rewarding and productive young adult life. There is however no cure and this weighs heavily on the emotional health of children, teenagers, parents and their healthcare team.

 

Research shows that children with CF benefit from a care provided by a multidisciplinary team of specialists. Unfortunately, government and health funding falls short of meeting the comprehensive needs of children with CF.  Currently, several positions rely on the goodwill of kind people who support our staff in our fundraising efforts.

 

We urgently need your support to continue providing these essential components of care. Your contribution can make a significant difference in the lives of those affected by Cystic Fibrosis.
