This National Science Week (9-17 August 2025), we’re thrilled to partner with the Australian Space Agency to bring the wonders of space to children and young people receiving care across the Hospital Schools within the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network, at the Australian Space Discovery Centre, and in activities you can try at home.

Created by the Australian Space Agency and delivered in partnership with SCHF, this suite of space-themed educational resources is designed to keep young minds engaged, inspired and dreaming big even while in hospital.

The resources include:

  • A teacher guide designed to support educators, filled with inspiration for the activities.
  • A student worksheet that encourages hands-on exploration and creativity.
  • A short animation that brings the Australian Space Agency’s work to life — offering a fun, visual introduction to the world beyond our atmosphere.

These materials will be shared with educators across the Hospital Schools network, supporting students’ learning during their hospital stay and offering a meaningful way to celebrate science, innovation and discovery.

While space can feel far away, the truth is it’s part of our everyday lives — often in ways we don’t even realise. From GPS technology to weather forecasting, satellite communications and even the materials in everyday products, space technology is helping improve life on Earth every single day.

Whether dreaming of becoming an astronaut, a scientist, or simply exploring the cosmos, these new resources help school-based learners stay connected and explore the many surprising ways space science shapes our world.

At SCHF, we believe in the power of play, education and imagination to uplift and empower children. This inspiring partnership with the Australian Space Agency is just one more way we’re helping to brighten hospital experiences — by giving them the chance to shoot for the stars.
