Changing the future for children with rare diseases

More than 500,000 children in Australia live with a rare disease, with over 63,000 in Western Australia alone.

Devastatingly, rare diseases are the leading cause of childhood death in Australia, responsible for 6 in 10 fatalities, and 30% of children with a rare disease won’t make it to their fifth birthday.

For too many families, the journey to a diagnosis can take years. That’s years of missed milestones, of birthdays spent in hospital, and of parents pleading for answers while watching their child fade without knowing why.

But there is hope.

Australia is leading a new era of rare disease research and care. Genomic medicine is fast-tracking diagnoses. Groundbreaking therapies are emerging for conditions once considered untreatable. And thanks to leading institutions like Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network and Perth Children’s Hospital, discoveries are being delivered directly to patients at the bedside, in clinics, and through clinical trials.

By supporting Gold Series - Perth 2025, you will help fuel this momentum, funding the research, innovation, and care these kids deserve.

Together, we can build a future where rare diseases no longer define a child’s life, and every child has the chance to thrive.
