Lainey's Road To Recovery

Lainey's Road To Recovery

Lainey was admitted to Parkes Emergency Department in respiratory distress. Rushing in through the emergency doors with our 5-week-old baby felt like a nightmare we couldn't wake up from. Seeing how quickly the nurses and doctors worked on Lainey to get her stable was truly amazing, we are so lucky to have such wonderful staff in Parkes and both Luke and I will forever be grateful for everything they had done for our baby girl. 

That night we were transferred to Westmead Sydney Children's Hospital and admitted into ICU. On arrival doctors picked up that her heart was in an abnormal rhythm. They got to work straight away doing ultrasounds and other scans on her heart ad got her stable overnight. The next morning Cardiologist decided they would try to shock her heart back into rhythm. That week they tried 9 times to shock her heart each time nothing happened. They then decided that they would try medications to get her rhythm under control. 

Two weeks being in ICU and her condition was deteriorating. She was put on life support as a preventative for having to do it if she wasn't stable, so they chose to do it in a controlled environment.
The next day she was taken in for emergency surgery and ended up having most of her large intestine removed. The surgeons found that most of her large intestine had died and perforated. Two days later she went back in for another surgery to have a stoma put in. 

Since the surgery her heart and overall condition has improved. There have been a few setbacks along the way, but she has never given up once and proved she is a little fighter. 

Even the smallest of donations are a massive help to the many families going through the stress and struggles facing sick children. We want to thank everyone for the support that has been shown to us throughout this journey and thank everyone that is willing to donate to help these amazing services continue to operate.

We're attempting an interesting challenge and have decided to raise money to support two amazing organisations involved with Lainey's care whilst in Westmead Children's Hospital.

Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation supports Australia's leading paediatric health services, offering a safe and friendly healing environment for children from NSW and beyond. Every dollar we raise contributes to keeping our hospitals running at a world class, award-winning level.

NETS is the emergency service for sick or injured babies, infants and children who need to be transferred to a specialist perinatal or paediatric centre. 

That's why we've chosen to raise much needed funds for the Sydney Children's Hospitals Foundation & NETS. Thank you for your support!
