Unstoppable changemakers: our SCHF volunteers

02 May 2022

The incredible team of over 1,300 volunteers (and counting) are an essential part of SCHF and are the heart and soul of our Movement of Many.

From helping at a variety of different fundraising events and appeals to contributing in the office, virtually or behind the scenes, we simply couldn’t do what we do for sick kids and their families without our amazing volunteers.

Volunteering is a great way to get involved in something you care about and to meet people who share your passion. From listening to all the stories from our volunteers, we know they get a lot out of the experience.

Just like one of our newest volunteers Phoebe, who is currently in year 12 and is a long-term patient at the Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick. Phoebe was diagnosed with Leukaemia in 2016 and experienced firsthand the kindness and care from staff at the hospital, including the Kids Cancer Centre. This positive impact led Phoebe to realise the importance of giving back and lending a helping hand to help more kids like her.

“Volunteering for Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation is extremely important as they rely on the support of the community in order to continue doing their amazing work,” says Phoebe.

Phoebe first volunteered with SCHF at this year’s Silver Party.

“I had a great night! I particularly enjoyed hearing the heart-warming story of Annabelle, a patient from the Kids Cancer Centre. It was extremely enlightening to hear about the Foundation’s incredible efforts to support such an amazing cause,” added Phoebe.

“I would highly recommend volunteering to others as it is such a beneficial experience and it’s for an amazing cause that needs all our support. Volunteering is one of the many ways that we can support SCHF and it was really important for me to give back to a community that has supported me in every way.”

National Volunteer Week, 16 – 22 May 2022, is Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteering.

This year’s theme, Better Together, acknowledges that volunteering brings people together, building communities and creating a better society for everyone.

National Volunteer Week is a chance to celebrate and recognise the vital work of volunteers and to say thank you.
