Help Support Aylissa's Journey with Scoliosis

Our beautiful granddaughter, Aylissa, has been bravely living with a condition called scoliosis, a sideways curvature of the spine. While scoliosis is most commonly diagnosed in teenagers around 13–18 years of age, Aylissa's condition was discovered when she was just a little girl, making her case much less common.

Two years ago, Aylissa was doing what every child loves to do – playing outside, climbing, exploring, and enjoying life. After a fall from a farm gate, her sister noticed later that evening that her back looked uneven. This observation led to medical investigations and ultimately a diagnosis of scoliosis.

Since then, Aylissa has shown incredible strength and resilience. Despite the challenges, she continues to smile, stay positive, and enjoy the things she loves most – especially spending time with her horse and being an active, adventurous young girl.

Unfortunately, her scoliosis has progressed to the point where surgery is now necessary. In July, Aylissa is expected to undergo major spinal surgery to help straighten and stabilise her spine. This procedure will involve spinal fusion, a life-changing operation that will help protect her health and future.

The recovery journey will be long and challenging. For at least 6–12 months, Aylissa will be unable to participate in many of the activities she loves, including horse riding, trampolining, and other physical activities. However, with time, healing, and determination, we are hopeful she will be able to return to doing the things that bring her joy.

What is scoliosis?

Scoliosis is a condition where the spine curves sideways and can also rotate. In younger children, scoliosis can be particularly concerning because their bodies are still growing. If left untreated, severe curves can affect the development of the chest, heart, and lungs. Early treatment is often necessary to prevent further progression and protect long-term health.

All funds raised through this fundraiser will be donated directly to Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick, in recognition of the incredible care, support, and treatment provided to Aylissa and so many other children and families facing serious medical challenges. By donating, you are not only supporting Aylissa's journey but also helping the hospital continue its vital work in providing world-class care, equipment, research, and support services for children in need.

Every donation, no matter how small, will make a difference and will be deeply appreciated.

Thank you for taking the time to read Aylissa's story and for supporting her as she faces this challenge with courage and determination.

Please consider donating and sharing this fundraiser with your family and friends.

With heartfelt thanks,

Aylissa's Family ❤️
