May 31st, we are walking 65km to raise funds for the CF Clinic at Westmead Children's Hospital
May is Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Awareness Month.
Where to start...let's be real - CF is tough. As such we will be walking 65km to raise some funds, awareness and advocacy for our little munchkin and all the kids like her.
Harriet was diagnosed with a heel prick test at birth and we were notified around 12 weeks after she had lost some 25% of her bodyweight. Modern medicine being what it is, we were given Creon and away we went, putting weight back on and starting to digest the news and condition ourselves to the new routine.
Physio, nebulising medications, meds with food, regular blood tests and other appointments - you get the picture, it becomes normal, but it's a lot.
So, why not walk a lot - 65km's is a loose reference to '65 roses', which is symbolistic of Cystic Fibrosis as it is a phrase young children often say when trying to say the full condition. Harriet and everyone else living with CF have good days and tough days, days when the routine of treatments are the last thing you feel like doing, so rain, hail, blisters, or shine - we will push on and walk the 65km track - as we have done every year since Harriet was born and I can't see us stopping any time soon.
This year we welcome locals to join, if you are interested in joining send me a direct message for the details. We will finish at the park next to the Gosford Sailing Club / Gosford Swimming Pool for celebratory drinks, so we would also welcome people to come and say hello.
As always, thanks for your support! Any and all donations will go to our wonderful team at the CF Clinic at Westmead Children's Hospital, a deserving team who rely on fundraisers such as this to provide a safe, multi-disciplinary team for comprehensive CF support.
