For the past three years, Canberra Grammar School (CGS) has stood in solidarity with Sydney Children's Hospitals Foundation (SCHF), proving that distance is no barrier when it comes to making a life-changing impact on kids' health. Through their annual Head Shave initiative, CGS students have raised over $186,000 to support the Kids Cancer Centre (KCC) at Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick—a partnership that continues to grow stronger each year.

CGS's commitment to this cause is deeply personal. Several years ago, the school community mourned the loss of a student to leukaemia, an experience that left a lasting impact. What began as a way to honour his memory, has now evolved into a school-wide tradition, led by Year 12 students.

In 2024, members of the Year 12 leadership team and teachers had the opportunity to visit Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick, witnessing firsthand the incredible work their fundraising helps to support. Seeing the dedicated medical teams in action, and understanding the role of cutting-edge research, reinforced the importance of their efforts.

Feeling inspired after their visit, CGS once again selected SCHF as their chosen charity for 2025. Thanks to the incredible commitment of the Canberra community, the 2025 Head Shave raised over $54,000, bringing their total fundraising contribution to over $186,000 – deepening the connection between the Canberra cohort and SCHF.

Canberra may be geographically distant from Sydney, but the impact of its generosity is felt every day in the lives of sick kids and their families. The partnership between CGS and SCHF is a testament to the power of philanthropy—turning compassion into tangible action and fundraising into real hope. By supporting initiatives like this, donors and communities alike can help shape the future of paediatric healthcare, ensuring that no child faces illness alone – as you never know when someone you know may require this world-class care.
