A message to our Healthcare Heroes

9 May 2020

To our healthcare heroes,

These last few months have been an unprecedented and challenging time for us all. Whilst we’ve stayed home and stayed safe, you’ve worked tirelessly, continuing to help sick kids, with serious conditions, like cancer, respiratory illnesses, rare diseases and injuries.

For these young patients, there’s no doubt COVID-19 has added an extra layer of stress and concern. The current pandemic has sadly limited some of the distraction therapies available in the Hospital. It’s also reduced the number of visitors that patients can have, with only one adult being allowed. For sick kids, this time apart from their siblings and one parent has been particularly difficult, but your kindness and compassion throughout, has filled that emotional gap the whole family is experiencing.

Your unwavering support and care for sick kids is truly humbling and we’ll be forever grateful.

Your ability to balance your own family’s needs whilst still providing the reassurance, comfort and care these patients need has been wonderful. We would like to extend our thanks to all your families, including your partners and children too! Once again, you’ve sacrificed precious time away from your own kids to help care for others. Witnessing first-hand your determination and grit, has been truly inspiring and through your actions, we’re seeing the best of people in the most challenging of times.

That’s why we’re shouting our thanks from the rooftops! Over the next few weeks to show our gratitude, you’ll see special ads pop-up all-over Sydney, donated to us by oOH Media, JCDecaux, QMS Media and radio station WSFM with Jonesy and Amanda.  If COVID-19 has taught us one thing, it’s the importance of reflecting and acknowledging the sacrifice, hard work and generosity of others.

Looking back, I will choose to remember 2020 as the year our community rallied together, supported one another and celebrated our healthcare heroes.

On behalf of the Foundation, thank you.

Warm regards,
