Help me celebrate my birthday with a gift to Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick
I am turning 50!
It’s a big, round, “I’ve become my parents”, number. I remember my mum and my friends’ parents turning 50 and some of my best friends are already 50. CRIKEY! I'm turning fifty!!!
But I still feel thirty in my head. I am certainly not old!!!! (If you don’t mind). When I think back on my other birthdays, it’s quite amazing how long ago they feel; and yet, like yesterday… That’s life. It moves on at light speed and treacle-pace at the same time. Priceless!
Life is priceless, which is why I’ve decided I would like to make my birthday DO something rather than be something.
Close to 40% of people will be diagnosed with cancer at some point during their lifetimes (Condescendingly, that’s more than 1 in 3, almost half of us) and it is devastating to everyone it touches. I considered Breast Cancer research; my mother-in-law and my mum both had breast cancer. But prostate cancer research might be more appropriate - my father-in-law and a good friend have both had that, and my husband and I being males, both stand a significant chance of developing it. There are already so many charities working on behalf of both causes, so I thought a bit longer.
And since I am still mostly a child in my head, and I know the absolute benefit my family have received from them, I have decided that Randwick Children’s Hospital in Sydney is who I want to endorse. I know how charities work, so I would rather donate to one that I absolutely know does fabulous work.
People have a compulsion to buy presents; we’ve done it all of our lives for all sorts of frivolous occasions - so a big, so-called, “milestone” birthday is certainly no exception. I’ve thought about what I really would like:
bottles of champagne/prosecco;
cards I will keep for a year and then bin;
trinkets I will put in a drawer in the dark; or
… anything else….
Actually… Fine! Ok, it's a watch. I want a watch… a Watch! I already have a few though, so I don’t actually need another one, do I?
So please help me reach my goal instead.
Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick is one of Australia's leading specialist medical centres for children, offering a safe and friendly healing environment for kids from NSW and beyond. The Hospital's expert medical staff care for more than 69,000 critically ill and injured children every year.
I’d love your help to support them. Thank you!
